I used to think that Highlighting and Contouring were just tricks people used on tv shows or youtube. And there was no way that I, a mom with 5 boys who lives in the Midwest would ever be able to figure it out! Not to mention, all of the videos I had seen that showed how to do it involved way too many steps and products. I didn’t even know how to pick the correct shade of foundation, how would I know how to pick out the products I’d need to highlight and contour my face? (And also not end up looking like a crazy person!)
Enter Maskcara IIID Foundation. I found this brand back in 2015 when I had made a goal of finally learning how to do my own makeup. You see, I was 36 years old, and I was tired of not knowing how to do much more than put on a little eyeshadow and mascara. I took a chance, ordered some online, and I’ve never looked back. I found a method of application and a product range that is unmatched in the brands sold in stores. And the best part? I was able to figure out how to use it without spending hours in the bathroom. If you have kids, you know that spending hours in the bathroom putting on makeup just isn’t feasible most days.
Maskcara Cream Foundation was created to help women to save time, look beautiful, and also to accentuate your cheekbones and the natural angles of your face. Traditional foundations tend to give us a flat, one-dimensional look on our faces, which leads us to add more layers of makeup to re-create the shadows and light areas that we covered up with our foundation.
Ok, so how does it work?
Maskcara IIID Foundation consists of 4 steps. Your Highlight color or colors, your Contour color, your lip+cheek color, and your Illuminator. The makeup is all cream based and comes in small tins that fit into magnetic compacts. This makes it super easy to replace the color you run out of. You simply pop the empty tin out of the compact and slide in the new one! I apply my makeup with a brush, but you can also use your fingers and a sponge.
I love how this method has simplified my makeup routine. Anyone can go from overtired mom to feeling beautiful in under 15 minutes! If I’m going full glam, then that will take a bit longer. 😉
Here’s my step-by-step for my simple routine:
I start with my Highlight colors. I use 2 shades currently. A darker shade to color-correct my redness and dark under-eye circles, and a lighter color that matches my skin tone more closely all over my face. I apply both Highlight colors with my current favorite brush, the 30 Second HAC Brush. The large end of this brush is my favorite to apply and blend in one step. I love that I have 2 ends in one brush. It saves me so much time searching for the tools I need!
Once I’ve applied my Highlight shades and blended them into my skin, I apply my Contour. The Contour shade should be one shade darker than your skin tone so that it helps to bring out your gorgeous cheekbones. I apply this directly under my cheek bones, around the edges of my face near my hairline, under my jaw, and down the sides of my nose. Again, I use my 30 Second HAC Brush to apply my Contour color. It’s so simple and fast to apply my Contour shade and blend as I go.
For my blush (or lip+cheek as it’s known in Maskcara Beauty), I apply my color on the apples of my cheeks and blend outward toward my hairline. I prefer to follow the line of my Contour color to help me keep everything in place and to make blending easier. The 30 Second HAC brush is great to apply the lip+cheek color with, but I also love the B Squared Brush. The smaller end is the perfect size and shape for blush!
The last step is to add a little shimmer on your cheekbones, down the bridge of your nose, and even on your Cupid’s bow on your lips. Maskcara carries both cream and powder Illuminators. I love the cream Illuminator for a natural shimmer and the powder Illuminators are gorgeous for an extra pop of shimmer and shine! It really completes the look, in my opinion.
