Summer is here and so are my summer favorites! School is out and the lazier days of summer have begun. In honor of the beginning of summer, I’m excited to share some of my favorite products for the hot, humid summer months! These are all things I have used and love, and I hope you love them, too!
Summer is almost here! I can’t wait to share my simple, 3 minute summer makeup routine! You see, I don’t like wearing a lot of makeup in the hot summer months. The heat and humidity of Kansas City, combined with the afternoons at the pool with my boys, means that I don’t spend a ton of time on my appearance! I’m equal parts excited and nervous for summer, do you love Summer break? I’m looking forward to lazier days spent at the pool and more freedom to stay up later and sleep in a little. But, along with that, I’m nervous about the inevitable fights and the cries of, “I’m bored, Mom!”, I’ll hear daily. Oh well, can’t win them all, right?! lol.
That’s why I love having a simple makeup routine to see me through the hot summer months. I can still feel put together and I don’t feel like my face is melting off. The best part? Because I use cream makeup, my makeup is water resistant! That means that I can swim with it on and it won’t come off unless I rub my face really hard with the towel. 🙂
Are you ready to see my easy routine? You’ll be amazed at how fast and simple it is.
Here’s what I use for my 3 minute summer makeup routine:
That’s it! I don’t contour my face at all when I’m doing my 3 minute summer makeup routine, so this is a very natural look. But, it’s probably one of my favorite makeup looks! Bonus- my husband loves it, too!
I start by using my fingers to apply my highlight shade- Mango– where I feel I need some color correcting help. Most days, this is on my cheeks, across my nose, and under my eyes. I gently dab the color onto my skin and blend it in with my fingers. Since I’m going for a natural coverage look, I’m not trying to cover all of my skin’s flaws. If I feel like I need more coverage, or I look extra tired, I’ll use a brush for this step.
Once I have my highlight applied, I apply my lip & cheek color with the B Squared brush. Dahlia is my favorite lip and cheek for Summer because it’s so bright and fun. I love how it looks on my tanned summer skin. Since I know I’ll be using the Bella Cream Bronzer over my blush, if I go a little heavier with the Dahlia on my cheeks, I don’t worry too much! The Bella will calm down any extra brightness!
Time for Bella Bronzer-
When I’m happy with my cheek color, I use the large end of my B Squared brush to apply the Bella Cream Bronzer. Because it is a cream bronzer, it works a little bit differently than a powder bronzer and a cream contour. Bella is also really pigmented so it doesn’t take much to see a difference on your skin! I put Bella anywhere the sun would naturally hit my face if I was standing outside. This means I brush it lightly on my cheeks, across my nose, on my chin, and on my forehead. I blend it in so I don’t have any dark, splotchy areas, and then I move on to my brows!
For my brows, I grab my Astoria contour (my current favorite brow shade), and I use the Know Your Angles brush to quickly fill in my brows. Again, I’m not going for a detailed, date night look. Remember, I’m just doing a natural, 3 minute summer makeup routine! After my brows, I throw on my favorite mascara. It’s always amazing what a difference some mascara and brows can make when it comes to your face!
Don’t forget Illuminator!
Oh! I almost forgot Illuminator! I love using Rose Gold Cream Illuminator in the summer months. It’s so pretty on tan skin! I use my fingers to apply my Illuminator across the tops of my cheekbones, down the bridge of my nose, and on the cupids bow of my lips.
When it comes to setting my makeup, I go back and forth on my method depending on the day. Some days, I’ll use a setting spray (THIS one is great for oily skin!), and other days I’ll use a setting powder over my T-zone where I tend to get shiny (I highly recommend THIS one!).
A little more Dahlia on my lips, some lip gloss, or even some Maybelline Super Stay lipstick if I’m feeling fancy, and I’m ready to go! I love how light this makeup look feels on my face. I forget I’m even wearing makeup. It allows me to get ready in even less time than usual, and I’m able to head out the door at a moment’ notice!

Ok, confession time. I had no idea that cream foundation was a thing until I found Maskcara a few years ago. I know it’s becoming more common, now, but when I was dipping my toe into the waters of makeup 3+ years ago, I only knew of liquid foundation or those green covergirl powder compacts that everyone used in the 1990’s when I was in high school. (Yes, I’m that old. hahaha!) Now that I’ve converted to using creams for my makeup, I’ll never go back to the liquids & powders I used to use!
